HIP HOP

1. DJ FELLI FEL- Reason to Hate (Feat. Ne-Yo, Tyga & Wiz Khalifa)

Release date: April 23rd on I-Tunes.

I had the pleasure of meeting Felli Fel (http://www.djfellifel.com/) in the dj booth at Supperclub Hollywood for ‘Boom Boom Saturdays’, and he was one of the coolest dudes in the booth, and I must say that he deserves for this track to blow up the way I predict it will.

This not yet released (May 23) track is definitely geared for the club/radio dj’s and is def going to be in heavy rotation in my dj sets. It carries a very catchy hook from Ne-Yo and features 2 of Hip Hops biggest players in the game at the moment, Tyga, and Wiz Khalifa, which gives it some serious street credibility. Keep an eye out for this release and cop it on I-Tunes May 23!

HIP HOP/MASHUP

2. TRINIDAD JAMES x DJ SNAKE- All Bird Everything (Grandtheft Edit)  | FREE DOWNLOAD |

Im a big fan of the original ALL GOLD EVERYTHING by TRINIDAD JAMES, so naturally i was interested to giving this oddly titled bootleg/mashup a listen…..and I was pleasantly surprised.

It starts off with an accapella ‘Popped a Molly i’m Sweatin!’, great for scratching in, and with a trap-style snare roll, drops into DJ Snakes ‘Bird Machine’  (MAD DECENT) with the Trinidad acapella, and in some strange way it works! Free download available.

ELECTRO/MASHUP

3. BINGO PLAYERS ft. 2 CHAINZ- Rattle (Sexy Lady)  | FREE DOWNLOAD |

Off the bat, this seems to be a disaster in the making, but after a curious listen, with an attempt at an open mind, I liked it.

2 CHAINZ spits it over BING PLAYERS ‘Rattle’ and manages to turn an EDM hit into a Top40 club jam, Im imaging this getting a few spins at the club.

TRAP/REMIX

4. MACKLEMORE- Cant Hold Us (Dancefloor Junkies Trap Remix) | FREE DOWNLOAD |

DOWNLOAD HERE:

Cant hold us rmx

This track was released (unofficially) 5 minutes ago. Macklemore’s ‘Cant Hold Us’ as you already know, is hot single at the moment, and DANCFLOOR JUNKIES  [https://soundcloud.com/dancefloorjunkies] took full advantage and manufactured this Trap remix, and I might add, that its done quite well and in good taste, still maintaining the original ‘feel’ of the original, while giving it a tough edge and massive drop as expected.

Hip Hop

5. EMP DASME- Had a Dream (Produced by Brenmar)

‘I HAD A DREAM I WAS HELLA COOL…

So, I was on the dig for some good opening tracks for an upcoming gig and stumbled upon this cat BRENMAR ‘s Soundcloud page [https://soundcloud.com/brenmar] and was stuck for a good 30 minutes just browsing through some of his originals and remix’s, alot of really eclectic sounds going on here, very refreshing from the norm….and then I found this buried gem.

Originally released on a  Fools Gold Compilation ‘LOOSIES’ [https://soundcloud.com/foolsgoldrecs/sets/fools-gold-presents-loosies, with the production, lyrical originality, catchy hook, addictive bassline and dark undertone, I was sold.

ELECTRO/REMIX

1. DAVID GUETTA & NE-YO- PLAY HARD (Rehab Remix)

This was literally just released about an hour ago on Rehab’sSoundcloud page [https://soundcloud.com/r3hab]. And, as you can probably imagine, is a peak hour banger. This track, already being a popular choice in your commercial-type, Hollywood clubs, and a fav amongst the ladies, is taken to a whole new level by Rehab and given a new element of energy.

Rehab compliments this track with heavy synths and a maddening build up guaranteed get the club on its edge awaiting the drop, and when that drop happens, there are no disappointed faces in the crowd. This is one to keep in your back pocket, and when the time is right, hit them with this gem.

TRAP/REMIX/BOOTLEG

2. DAFT PUNK- ONE MORE TIME (Zooly Remix)  [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Well, anyone who has the balls to put out a Trap remix of Daft Punk deserves to be looked at, good or bad, and I think this was done well.

With Daft’s new album due to be released in May (21st I believe), Zooly [https://soundcloud.com/zoolymusic], a DJ/Producer out of LA, felt it necessary to pay an homage to the Electronic icons, by releasing this remix. And it was done with good taste, production value and style.

DISCO HOUSE

3. SOLIDISCO- NEVER LET YOU GO –    [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Im def feeling this one from the trendsetters over at Fools Gold Records [https://soundcloud.com/foolsgoldrecs].

This is one I will definitely be throwing in every now and then during an opening/early set or even a lounge setting, great feel good house music right here with a great vocal sample and disco synths.

HIP HOP/TRAP/REMIX

4. SUIT & TIE- JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE (Dillon Francis Remix)

Im a little late in sharing this, been out a couple of weeks (official release..?) but better late then never.

This has been hitting the scene hard, Dillon Francis does a great job not over doing it and manages to keep it sexy with a nice edge.

Here is what Dillon had to say about this remix:

“….YUUPPP got to do an OFFICIAL remix for JT’s song Suit & Tie!!!! im sooooo fucking happy about the outcome of my remix!!! So here is the stream!! RELEASE DATE IS STILL TBA and dont start yelling at me because Jay-Z vox aren’t in the remix because Sony said that i wasnt allowed to…..anyways ENJOY….”

TECH HOUSE

5. STEFANO NOFERINI- YOU CAN DO IT (Original Mix)  FREE DOWNLOAD

Stefan Noferini is one of my favorite Tech House producers at the moment, I was lucky to catch one of his sets at Playhouse Hollywood for Monday Social (House themed night @Playhouse). And it was amazing as expected.

Just before WMC in Miami last week, he released this track, and I was immediately impressed. Definitely has a very Tech/afterhours vibe to it, a real nice progressive energy, and a very nice drop, guaranteed to please the most critical house heads on the dance floor.

DJ Weathermans’ Weekly Top 5 Picks- Feb 28th

DJ Weathermans’ Weekly Top 5 Picks- Feb 28th

Sorry about the slight hiatus folks, been a busy week with shows and preparation of shows etc… Kicked off my new Weds night weekly residency at SMILES NIGHTCLUB in Sherman Oaks last night, had a few high maintenance, open-format gigs that required a bit more planning than usual….

With that being said, here is this weeks Top 5, i hope you enjoy and maybe even a few make it to your set and the dancefloors. And, as usual, feel to comment and leave any feedback.

TRAP

1. BRO SAFARI- The Drop (FREE DOWNLOAD)

Here is a brand new release (released yesterday) by the grade A talent, Bro Safari https://soundcloud.com/brosafari. With a nice build up, a massive drop and top notch production sounds, this is one to surely get some hype and play in the EDM scene. FREE DOWNLOAD.

In his own words:

“….Whenever I write a new song, I always want to get it out for people to hear immediately. I’m directly inspired by the music that others are making and also by everything else happening around me, so it makes sense that when I write something new, I should let it be heard as quickly as possible… right? A product of its environment.

That’s what I did here. I wrote this song over the last week and immediately thought to give it away on Soundcloud, as quickly as possible.

You’ve all been really good to me, so I’ll keep doing this as often as possible without compromising the quality of the material that I’m giving away. I definitely don’t want to just hand you guys “filler” tracks. Anyway, I have a lot of music in the pipeline, so there won’t be any shortage of material from me in 2013.

Thanks again for all of the support! Hope you like the tune!”

- Nick / Bro Safari

MASHUP-TRANSITION
2. FRENCH MONTANA/NIKI MINAJ- Freaks (Tek One Transition 128-96) FREE DOWNLOAD
Not a huge fan of either artist, but this is something I can see myself playing in the club. It has a nice commercial sound to it, a little bit of a latin drum pattern to get the ladies moving, and Nicki’s verse has a good style to it. I kinda wish her verse was first unfortunately, I dont see myself leaving this song playing longer than after the first verse/chorus.
Tek One (https://soundcloud.com/djtekone) def adds a nice edge to it, making it dance floor worthy. Check him out.

HOUSE
3. AMTRAC- The Scheme (Original Mix) FREE DOWNLOAD
So, I thought I’d switch up the flavor in this weeks blog and feature some good ‘ol house music. Stumbled on this one on the WHITE FOLKS GET CRUNK blog. This track, produced by AMTRAC (https://soundcloud.com/amtrac) out of Florida, carries a soulful undertone, with a driving bass line that is meant to get people moving. A great track to include in your opening set in a house club or lounge, or even peak hour tune at the right spot with the right crowd. I can definitely see myself playing this out and keeping an eye out for this producer.
Cop the free download link and check out his Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/amtrac) for more tracks and info.
ELECTRO/PROGRESSIVE/BIG ROOM
4. PARIS BLOHM- Expand (Original Mix) FREE DOWNLOAD

Following his viral hit, ‘Presence’, Paris Blohm (https://soundcloud.com/parisblohm)exhibited his harder style with an energetic and heavy track, ‘Expand’.

“After starting with my first original release, ‘Presence’, I felt that I set the bar high for myself. I had many other releases that I wanted to release before this one, but they weren’t the same quality as ‘Presence’. Here is a track I feel is a proper representation of my harder style.”

This is definitely a peak hour, hands up crowd pleaser. If you wanna take the dance floor to that next level, you start with this.
BOOTLEG/MASHUP/HOUSE
5. ERIC CLAPTON- Cocaine (Koyote Bootleg) FREE DOWNLOAD
I was definitely very weary about this mashup at first, rightfully so. The original song, by Eric Clapton, is a classic song to me and one of my favorites, how dares someone remix it into some generic poorly done EDM track…
And boy, was i wrong. Koyote (https://soundcloud.com/djkoyote) kille it with this one! A very well rounded production, and, I feel, he did the original some justice with the chorus, build up and drop. It has a real ‘housey’ vibe to it, and a nice ‘bouncy’ eneergy, which I wouldn’t really expect from Koyote, but I am pleasantly surprised.
Using the instrumental, Satoshi Tomii – The Darkness (Will Sparks Remix), he does a superb job blending the 2 tracks and producing a really impressive Bootleg.
I will be waiting for the moment I get to drop this gem piece.
See ya next week!

As usual, feel free to comment or leave any feedback

NU-DISCO

1. GIGAMESH- Enjoy (Preview)

I thought id kick this weeks list off with some fun, light hearted warm up vibes…this is a brand new release from mega-producer Gigamesh (https://soundcloud.com/gigamesh) Just released on Beatport, Feb 12th (http://www.beatport.com/search?query=Gigamesh+-+Enjoy) Its got bright synths, classic disco vocals and a groovy driving beat, this is one you just gotta have. A great addition to your opening sets or just a feel good environment. Ill definitely be playing this tune out first chance I get.

TRAP

2. VALENTINO KHAN- Who You Wit? (Free Download)

“THIS SONG IS STRICTLY 4 THUGZ ONLY. IF U R NOT A THUG PLZ CLOSE UR INTERNET AS IT MAY INFLUENCE U TO DO THINGS THAT R SCANDALOUS & ROWDY IN NATURE. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY AND GOD BLESS.” - VK

…this is a statement from Valentino himself…id have to say he’s pretty dead on with this release. Before finding this, I wasn’t too familiar with VALENTINO KHAN (https://soundcloud.com/valentinokhan), which is quite surprising, considering his credentials. Producing for such multi-platinum artists such as 2 Chains, BoB, and having released EDM bangers through DIM MAK and MAD DECENT. He definitely nailed it with this banger, a must have for any EDM/TRAP set.

MOOMBAHTON

3. BRO SAFARI & UFO! – Savage Beauty (PREVIEW)

WOW. I dont normally post and review moombahton tracks (in case your not familiar with the genre: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moombahton) but this track is an absolute BANGER. Nothing id ever play in the club, but i couldnt help but share it.

Produced by EDM super-producer Bro Safari (https://soundcloud.com/brosafari) and UFO! (https://soundcloud.com/UFO55555) this tracked was described as “….interesting blend of influences ranging from Drum and Bass to Hardcore to Moombahton and many things in between….” As soon as i heard that deep bass line i was hooked in.

This can be found on the ‘Moombahton Forever Compilation’  released on T & A Records.

TOP40/CLUB/ELECTRO

4. ARIANNA ft. PITBULL – Sexy People (HLM Remix) *FREE DOWNLOAD*

HLM (https://soundcloud.com/dj_hlm) just got dropped this official remix to Adrinana and Pitbull’s tune, Sexy People (All Around the World). Definitely moves the track into a much more electro sound. A good top40 remix to drop in the club to get the ladies moving, with a nice build-up and drop to keep the hands up and fellas in it.

TRAP/EDM/REMIX

5. BAAUER-Harlem Shake (Kid Womp Remix) *FREE DOWNLOAD*

You didnt actually think i was going to end this without a review of the viral phenomenon the Harlem Shake, did you?

Well, I did even better, and tracked down an absolute bass nutty remix of the famed track, definitely going to want to watch your bass levels when this gem of a track drops. With 808 bass all the way through and even a snippet of the popular ‘I aint got time for that’ near the end, this track had banger written all over it.

From the up and coming Trap/EDM producer out of Texas, KID WOMP (https://soundcloud.com/kidwomp), this track delivers all that is to be expected, and more. Keep and eye out for this guy, big things in his future.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks picks, feel free to leave comments and share at your own will!

Weatherman’s Weekly Top 5 Picks

So, we meet again!

Welcome to the VERY FIRST installment of my ‘WEEKLY TOP 5 PICKS’!!

In this blog segment, I will be featuring not only tracks you might here me play on the dancefloor, but maybe just something im personally feeling outside of the club.

Id like to be able to offer a wide variety of styles and sounds, catering to both the club goers as well as the enthusiasts and ‘aficionados’!!

IF THERE IS A PARTICULAR TRACK YOU’D LIKE TO SEE FEATURED, OR A PRODUCTION OF YOUR OWN, FEEL TO SUBMIT YOUR REQUEST OR SUGGESTION IN THE COMMENT SECTION, AND ILL RESPOND ACCORDINGLY.

ENJOY!!

1. JOHN DAHLBACK vs. CHUCKIE- ZEUS IS READY TO JUMP (Zaken Remix)

So this first track is club banger, definitely a good opening track for a headlining timeslot or just a peak hour crowd pleaser. This remix/mashup has been done a million times, and its not a new release, but is definitely getting  spot in my rotation. TRACK IS OFFERED AS A FREE DL WITH A MASHUP PACK–LEAVE COMMENT FOR DL LINK.

2. A TRIBE CALLED QUEST- SCENARIO (Mister Gray Bootleg)

I came across this fire of a track on one of my fav music blogs, http://www.whitefolksgetcrunk.com. This particular track is a bootleg from Mister Gray, who has been churning out some very choice stuff lately, and this is a release from his latest bootleg pack release (DL link: http://www5.zippyshare.com/v/50633650/file.html)

Definitely feeling this on, as big fan of house music, it definitely has that feel, but could hold it s on any dancefloor with a build-up thats worthy of the finest joints. This one is heading right into my library for some immediate play. A def must have for any house fans or club dj’s.

3. TRAPPY GILMORE (A MIXTAPE)- VINYL RICHY

Wow. Just discovered this dj/producer out of Springfield, MO, (Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/vinylrichylnp) Stumbled on this mix over at White Folks Get Crunk. The mix is laced with some premium trap joints, some Im familiar with, others Im hearing for the first time. This cat definitely has top notch track selection and even implements some classic scratching styles you dont hear much in todays music, very refreshing. Get on this guy folks.

4. DIAMONDS- RIHANNA (DJ JMK remix)

Before you judge me, give it a listen. Not a fan of this song, and havent really found and remix’s worth playing in the club, yet. But this is actually pretty good. Has a nice hip hop feel to it, nice fat bass line, could def get away with this in a hip hop club, a track to get the ladies moving for sure. Would love your feedback in the comments section.

5. MY HOES DO DRUGS- GHETTO MEZIKANZ (Juke Remix)

Turn your bass up for this one! Wow, my headphones exploded while giving this a listen. This is def a late/early night track, has a nice commercial rap feel that the ladies can get into, and the fellas wont be hating either, but no doubt is this some straight TRAP bizness. I think i might give this one a try either early or as the night winds down, a def bass heavy track tho, BEWARE! Oh ya, my man JUICY J kills it on the track

This sums up Week 1! Feel free to leave your comments/suggestions and feedback in the comments section. Stay tuned for more up and coming hot tracks and artists.

Until next time…!

‘Da Art of Storytelling’

‘Da Art of Storytelling’

Hello friends and fellow music lovers!

So, last night i was hanging with some friends, and i was mentioning how earlier I had dug up some of my old dj mix’s on my laptop, and somehow ended up going on a ‘rant’ about the reason I had gotten into dj’ing and what sparked had that so-called ‘fire’.

Now, I might add that i find the whole ‘where it all started’ articles kinda corny, but im kinda biased on this one, as you can imagine.

As i was going into the story and reminiscing on my earlier days of dj’ing, it reminded me of my initial purpose to learn the craft, which in short was, to help provide the same experience as i was receiving myself, to be apart of the journey.

Ive always had real close connection to music through out my life, so much so, that I can map my past experiences through different types of music, different songs, and as soon as i replay certain music or individual tracks, it brings me right back to a certain period of my life, or a specific moment or experience, so real i can almost touch that period of time….make sense? I know that the way i relate to music isnt incredibly unique, and im quite sure there are readers out there relating to my experience and identifying, which is awesome, and anytime anyone has related to me when Ive described it to people, there seems to be an automatic, un-spoken bond that develops, a pretty special thing…

Anyways, before i digress much more than I already had, let me share with you the experience that i had that led me to where i stand today, and im quite fortunate to be able to identify when that took place.

I was traveling on what is known as a ‘Tica Bus’ through Costa Rica in Central America. If i remember correctly, I was traveling from the surf capitol of Jaco up north to Tamarindo on the Guanacaste Pennisula. I was there on a surf trip with a couple of friends and at this point had been having a pretty amazing time. Great surf, great food, great culture etc…

It was sometime late night, early morning

rodatrip

and we were in the middle of nowhere, all i knew is that we had been traveling through the jungle for a number of hours at this point. I had my headphones in and my head resting against the window staring outside, I dont remember the specific mix playing, but it was done by a UK dj/producer who goes by the name ‘Youngsta’, very atmospheric, deep bass lines, spacey synths, echoing snares etc, the mix must’ve ran 3hours+.

But I noticed something different this time. Maybe the environment i was in had something to do with it, but i realized that for the last couple hours, this mix i had been listening to , had essentially created an atmosphere, a story was being told through the music, an environment had taken shape, the music had been providing me with this journey. And during that moment, I realized that i wanted to be able to help create that experience for someone else, to be able to tell a story through music.

I was able to finally see how i was going to be able to utilize my passion for music and make a connection to others and share what was so close to me.

Im going to skip through the whole ‘buying my first dj setup’ part of the story, it doesnt seem to hold much relevance to this story or the message im conveying. But i will tell you, that my intention was to create some mix’s to share some of music that moved me, and to duplicate the very experience i shared about. That was it.

Now this is a VERY condensed version of the story, I dont want to bore you with describing the countless hours and hours spent learning how to mix, use my equipment, reading crowds, promoting etc…but i never saw my ‘dj hobbie’ growing into what it has today.

Today, Ive been able to take my passion to a whole other level. From the bedroom to dancefloors.

I dont care what style of music moves you, I recognize my job and desire is to connect to the audience, by any means necessary. I never could have predicted playing to crowds I do today.

What i have come to learn is, whatever the genre, commercial or underground, the experience and goal is the same for me, to help create and be apart of that special connection that music has always had for me, whether on a bus in the middle of the Costa Rican jungle, or a crowded Hollywood nightclub, its all about the journey and that ultimate feeling, that nothing in the world matters at that very moment.

“As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a …”

“As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a …”

…so, there I am, on stage, opening with my first couple of tracks to kick off what is to be a 4 hour set, of which my main concern is to keep the crowd dancing through out the whole night, without burning through the hits in the very beginning, a mistake rookie dj’s often make (and have been guilty of myself, not a fun place to be, burning through the bangers 2 hours into a 4 hour set :/…a panicked experience for sure where your left wondering ‘where the fuck do i go from here!’)..anyways, i digress….

So, as the night slowly progress’s, the dancefloor starts to fill up, I start to pick up the tempo of the music and begin playing some uptempo 100+ bpm hip hop (ie: Back that ass up, Ayy ladies, 2 Reasons, Cat Daddy, Ball etc). The energy of the dancefloor picks up, hands start to go up, bootys start movin’, people start hollering when there fav song drops . And as this is happening, as the energy starts to go up a notch, my approach becomes less and less mechanical and routine, it becomes one of intuition and feeling.

I kick it up another notch and start playing some uptempo top40, mainly remix’s, maintaining my personal flavor and still keeping the ladies on the dance floor, after all, as long the ladies are dancing, the guys will always follow :)

At this point, its usually around midnight, people start ‘high fiving’ for playing there fav shit, people slowly start to jump on stage, im getting on the mic during the build ups, telling the crowd to throw there hands up high, im with them during the big build ups, bringing the energy of the room to the absolute next level, and as soon as the tension builds, the hands are up, the track drops, and its fucking pandemonium…..and nothing else matters at that moment.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

I feel that as a DJ, a huge part of my job and responsibility is to know what the crowd wants, and to be able to give it to them, and to take it a step further, show them something they didnt know they wanted. An innovator of our time and dj/music culture once said:

‘AS A DJ YOU MIGHT THINK YOUR BIGGEST SONGS IN YOUR SET ARE THE ONES THE CROWD WANTS TO HEAR, BUT THE ONES THEY REMEMBER ARE THE SURPRISES…’

A-TRAK

…Im constantly striving to create the memorable moments, the moments where the energy is so intense and exhilarating that you feel as though you’re experiencing the ultimate high, a feeling that cant be duplicated by any synthetic chemical or substance.

moments like these…

blog photo

this picture was taken from an event i did in Orange County, I believe it was a Halloween event, and this image yells out the reason i became a dj in the first place. The money is nice, the travel, people i meet etc, but in the beginning none of that was on the ‘wish list’ for me, all i wanted to was to be apart of experiences like the one in implied in this photo, and its moments like these that i see from up on stage, behind the dj booth and turntables, through all the lights and fog machines, that keep me inspired and hungry to keep achieving and growing as a dj. This is why you all see me lugging my equipment around from gig to gig, from the low paying gigs to sometimes not so low, through the airports and clubs, the countless hours of music hunting and self-promoting, the $$ that i dont have spent on equipment upgrades and promotional photos, from djing empty dancefloors for promoters that cant promote to the 1.000+ people filled dancefloors and clubs. From jet-setting to rock clubs out of state, to packing up the car to play a house party.

For those moments, that is why. For all of supporters and followers and fanbase that have stuck with me through the beginning until now. For those that have endured my Facbook invites, Fan page invites, Twitter posts, Soundcloud posts.

If it wasnt for all of you and your support on and off the dancefloor, what would it all be for?

I thank you for your love and support and hope that I can continue to provide a positive and fun environment for years to come, so that you too can have that experience to be remembered.

Please, feel free to share any experience you may have had at any one of my shows in the comments section below, or any feedback that you may have:)
